Red Sky at Night

We’re playing a game. We begin a common phrase or saying and the children have to guess the last word.

Two many cooks spoil the.... “Books?” suggests our eldest.
Every cloud has a silver… “Lining!” shouts the seven year old.
One, two, buckle my…. “Shoe!” yells the four year old.
Red sky at night, shepherds’…. “PIE!” triumphs the two year old.

I like "too many cooks spoil the books". Is it some kind of banking metaphor? There's certainly been quite a bit of cooking the books recently.
